They were so used to magic and the easy living it provided, that many of them chose to die. The Faeryn King and Queen weren't ready to accept that fate and convinced their people to wait one day and learn one new skill.
The villagers agreed and waited one more day. The king taught them to use bows and arrows. They practiced from dawn till dusk, but many villagers were still not convinced, so the king asked them, a second time, if they would wait one more day and learn one new skill.
Again, they agreed. This went on for many, many months. The king taught them archery, hand to hand combat, stealth and how to observe the world around them using all their senses. The queen taught them to forage, to hunt and build using their hands.
Everyday was exhausting, yet satisfying and another chance to learn something new. The villagers have kept what the king and queen taught them close to their hearts and passed them down to their children. Now on days that don't go as planned, the children are asked to wait
one more day and learn one new skill.
