Good Morning, writerly friends,

It's Monday Mentionables time and I've got some pretty good links for you.

Nathan Bransford

Love his blog. It's very informative.

Next up is a children's illustrator who I have followed on and off for years. She is super talented and I love the fact that she has shared her process and tutorials with her readers.

Dani Jones

The above link is just an archive where you can find lots of great tutorials. Her current blog is located below.

Dani Jones

And lastly (but, not least), is Mary Kole's site. If you're writing children's books and haven't been to her site, you should. She also has a great book: Writing Irresistible Kidlit

Kidlit

I know, I know. It's all about kid stuff today. No worries, next week I'll have resources for those of you in different genres.

Have a wonderful week, my friends. May it be filled with lots of love, laughter and an over flow of creativity.

K. :)

Good Morning!

It's Monday Mentionables time....helpful links for writers.

I've got three links for you today.

Publetariat

Publetariat was founded by April L. Hamilton, and its mission is to share articles, editorials and advice from experts in writing, journalism, editing, book design, publishing in both hardcopy and electronic formats, book marketing and promotion, web design, podcasting, video trailer creation, author services and social media – all topics of great interest and grave

**April Hamilton no longer runs Publetariat. It is now run by Paula Reichwald

Blots and Plots

Blots and Plots is run by Jenny Bravo and is a very informative website.
More about Jenny:

Welcome to Blots & Plots. I’m Jenny Bravo. Yes, that is my real name. Yes, you can make a Johnny Bravo joke. I won’t mind. Thank you for coming to visit! Here, you’ll find writing advice, blogging tips and the honest truth about how to write and (self)publish a book for the first time.

Let’s get a few things out of the way: I’m a Christmas-obsessed, Frozen fanatic with a tendency to break into showtunes at any given moment. Phew. I feel better, don’t you? I’m a 23-year-old, NOLA girl living in Houston, who happened to spend six months driving a safari truck and saying things like, “Jambo!” (Disney Kilimanjaro Safaris, 2013) Oh yeah! And I’m writing a book.

KidLit411

This is a new site for me, but so far, I really like it.
More about KidLit411:

Our goal is to organize relevant information about writing and illustrating for children in one handy spot, right here. Our site includes:

Topical Pages - links to articles and resources organized by topics

Author & Illustrator Spotlights - each week, we feature an author and an illustrator, who share their experience with you

The Weekly 411 - each week, we compile the new links that were added during the week in an update post. You can receive this by email by subscribing to email updates (in the left hand sidebar)

So spend some time with us! Browse, click, connect and welcome to the world of kid lit writers and illustrators!

Have a great day everyone and may your cup of creative juice, java, tea or what have you, be overflowing.

Good morning, lovely people and happy Monday!

Editing book 2 of the Max Hamby series took my attention away for a moment, but Monday Mentionables is back. I have two links that you might find interesting.

The first is Story Structure Database from helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com.

If you haven't had a chance to stop and check it out, go now. It's useful as a refresher for experienced writers and more so for newbies just getting started. It's always interesting to see how movies and books are done.

http://www.helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com/story-structures/

Next up is an article that some of you may or may not agree with. I say that because everyone has their own way of doing things. But, you still might find this article interesting. For me, it was a good read.

Hello, lovely people!

We are back. How was your weekend?
Got your coffee or tea? If not, go grab a cup and get ready for #amwriting and Monday Mentionables.

Last week I posted links to Alexandra Sokoloff.
Did you read the Elements of Act One for Harry Potter?

In keeping with that, I've got another site for you.

For those of you that love epic fantasies like I do, this site may be helpful. In fact, I think it might be helpful for all of you no matter the genre.

Write Like Rowling
http://writelikerowling.com/

Check under Nuts and Bolts for all aspects of writing.

Keep in mind, that you're not J.K. Rowling and you don't have to be.
Gaining knowledge on how she put together and wrote Harry Potter is cool, but never try to be her. You're writing is unique because it comes from you. That is special in itself. It would be boring if we were all the same, right?

Have a great day!

K. :)

Morning everyone,

It's #amwriting time and Monday Mentionables! What could be better than that? Let's get going....

I thought you might enjoy the following links. They lead to a great author and one whose site I have found helpful more than a handful of times.

Alexandra Sokoloff.

If you haven't bookmarked her blog or purchased her book, you should.
We're going to start off with Elements of Act One. This is a three parter. Links for the other parts should be in the article or listed on the right hand side.

http://www.screenwritingtricks.com/2009/03/elements-of-act-one-harry-potter-story.html

Next up is How to Write A Novel From Start to Finish.
http://www.screenwritingtricks.com/2010/02/how-to-write-novel-from-start-to-finish.html

After reading that, you can continue on with the rest that is listed here:

Hi everyone,

I hope your weekend was a good one and a Happy (late) Father's Day to those that celebrated it.

It's Monday Mentionables time; links for #writers & #readers.

Today it's all about the author website. There's some fine links below on how to build one, what to include and mistakes you might want to stay away from.

Good Morning!

I hope your weekend was a great one.
It's Monday Mentionables time: Links for #readers & #writers.
I think I've chosen some good ones for you (& me) today.

#Writers

First up, ways to avoid using the word very.
I can tell you that I have a few in my current drafts.....okay, maybe more than a few. But, the word that is taking over my manuscript, at the moment, is 'watch'. Watch. Watches. Watching. You get the idea.
I've placed them in parentheses to remind myself they need to be changed. (there are alot of parentheses. lol.)

Have a look for yourself.

45 ways to avoid using the word 'very'
http://writerswrite.co.za/45-ways-to-avoid-using-the-word-very

This next link is pretty interested. It for screenwriters, but seriouly? I think any writer can use the info they supply. (IMO) The site navigation is weird and it hasn't been updated in a year, but the Columns section is what you want. If you scroll down to the bottom of the welcome page and click on Downloadable (TOC) under Archives, it might be easier.

Simply put, Wordplayer.com gives away secrets. Professional secrets. For free. From working screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. Secrets weighted specifically toward selling scripts to Hollywood. So if you want to make a sale, get an assignment, be able to quit that day job... Wordplay is for you!
http://www.wordplayer.com/columns/welcome.html

I'm having a bit of deja vu for this last link. I feel like I posted it before.
If you've already seen this website link, feel free to pass it along to someone who hasn't.
If you've never been to this website, go there and click around.
I find it truly interesting.

Good Morning, lovely people.

I hope your weekend was a good one. It's time for Monday Mentionables: Links for #writers & #readers.
Today's links are all about map making/cartography
I want to create a map for the Max Hamby series, but I've been a little apprehensive to give it a go.

So, instead of sitting down and drawing one out, I was going through Google links yesterday looking for info, tutorials, programs, etc. There's some decent info out there. I figured some of you might be as interested in this subject as I am.

I also came across a software company/site that looks really interesting and if I could go with their software instead of drawing it by hand, I would. I, especially, like their campaign cartographer 3 and their city designer. (No, I'm not an affiliate. Their software looks fun and easy.)

If you have any links or tutorials to share, please feel free to leave them in the comments section or let me know and I'll post them for you.
