Bonedread here and I am your expert on all things Grimhold and beyond.
Welcome back. Today, I'm going to take to to a small village just outside Grimhold Marketplace.
Pendle is a small village about two miles from the marketplace, past Ubbin Falls on the coast of Howling Cove.
When you first get to the village, it doesn't look like much, but if you know where to go, like I do, you're in for a treat.
A little Pendle history...
I used to do a bit of trade when Pendle used to breed Pingles. Pendle Pingles may sound silly to you, but those little creatures were in high demand back in the day.
Pingles were a cross between a panda and a cat and were about the size of a squirrel. They were fast, smart and had the softest fur you've ever felt in your life. Most of all, they were loaded with magic. If you were lucky to get your hands on a Pingle and treat it right, you were set for life.
Pingles hatched from eggs that the villagers would bury in the sand. The vibrations from the crashing waves and constant ocean breeze which howled through the caves helped the Pingles to grow in a month's time.
Unfortunately, thieves and high demand forced the villagers out of business and the Pingles became extinct.
I'd say Pendle's current claim to fame is a small restaurant that sits in the center of the village and is a stone's throw from the beach. Murdock's Meatary. It's not pretty, so don't expect any frills or fluff. What this place lacks in appearance. it makes up for in meat. I don't know how Murdock does it, but he can get his hands on any meat you want. (within reason, of course)
Thick slabs of meat are served sizzling hot on a plank and topped with wild onions, mushrooms and a generous portion of gritty gravy that will put hair on your chest. Make a day of it and bring your appetite.
If you're able to walk after Murdock's, take a stroll over to Agatha Blackmore's hut at the end of the road. Old Aggie is a witch with a special touch when it comes to potion making. I once had a bunyon the size of a plum on my big toe. A couple of sips of Aggie's Bunyon Begone and I was right as rain the next day.
Keep in mind, Aggie's potions are not cheap, but they are well worth the cost. Don't try to cheat the old witch out of money and that includes haggling. You'll become a permenent part of her "collection". You don't want to know what that means. Trust me.
Next stop are the howling caves. It is best to go at low tide. You don't want to get yanked out to sea. The caves are interesting, but not enough to risk your life. Early in the morning is the best time to go and be sure to look for the miser that's taken up residence there.
Henry knows all about Pingle history and is good for a story or two. Just make sure to leave him a couple coins before you leave.
Our last stop is Stumpy's Gift Shop. Stumpy got his name by messing with Old Aggie. He's a nice guy, though and has every knickknack or tchotchke you can imagine and even ones you've never seen before.
Watch out, because Stumpy is a sly old fellow. Your money will disappear faster than you can say Pingle poo.
That ends our tour of Pendle. Until next time...
